life eh

We caught up with my cousin D last night. His fantastic wife L and the girls were treating him to a party to celebrate receiving his Masters degree. D’s exactly the same age as me so we’ve always been close but in recent years haven’t spent much time with he and L because it happens like that sometimes. I was very proud of him for his success. D never had a great education and joined the army as a young lad. But he has doggedly made the best life for himself through sheer hard work and determination backed by a good woman. He did a full stint in the army rising to the highest rank as a NCO and has carved out a highly successful second career in the Health service in the last 15 years or so. Good eh! Well we also found out that D has some major health issues now and his prognosis isn’t good. Why does this stuff always happen to the good guys? Life can be incredibly cruel. But D is as positive as he can be and the party was great. The most fun we’ve had in months. Good on yer D.

ps here’s a funny thing; my brother D’s just called to tell me my nephew R (who sometimes features in the comments on this site) has just become engaged to Rachel. So the Duster’s been mustered. Only joking R. That’s just made me feel so much better – a real uplift for the family. He’s a great lad and although we haven’t met Rachel yet, my daughters have and tell me she’s a lovely girl. So some great news to end the week. Life eh!
